Tips To Make Meal Planning Easy

We think of meal planning as a way to eat better and save money, but many think of it as work or a chore to check off the list. It may seem daunting at first, but if you establish a good routine, you’ll find that meal planning can save time in the end. Here are some easy steps to become a meal prepping pro in no time!

Plan Ahead

Choose one day each week and deem it meal planning day! Get yourself a notebook dedicated to meal planning and write out each day’s meals then a grocery list for that week. Complete one big grocery haul on the same day. If you’re stuck on what to make, ask your friends and family for suggestions on their favorite meals and experiment until you find your favorite go-to’s.

Plan for Leftovers

When you plan the week out in advance, you can easily see where you can reinvent one night’s dinner for lunch the next day. Chicken cutlets are a prime example: instead of just making one, cook two, and you can use the leftovers in a different meal. Or, if the recipe turned out amazingly, have it again prepared the same way you had it for dinner.

Double Up

For meals that can easily be frozen, plan to make twice as much! It may be a tiny bit of extra work now, but on that day when you’re running late and still need to complete ten training miles, you’ll be thankful there’s something quick waiting to thaw and eat afterward.

Shop Your Home

After you’ve completed your grocery list, take a look in your pantry and fridge. You may see that you already have some of the items and can easily cross those off.

Meal Prep

Do you have time after your grocery haul? Put on your AfterShokz, turn on some tunes or your favorite podcast, and start chopping up the veggies and preparing your meats for the rest of the week. Store them in the fridge, and you’ve already reduced your future prep time!

Start Slow

When first starting out, it can be easy to find some fun (aka complicated) recipes and go crazy! This could result in a lot of unused ingredients, wasted money and frustration. Pick one new recipe a week and go from there.

Reuse Good Plans

Once you find what works for you, keep at it! Add notes about what did and didn’t work on each of your plans and continue to build off of those. Make sure to share your recipe & meal planning success with AfterShokz on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter!
